  • Bruno Fernando - a Brazilian star

NominatedFrom the creator of VANESSA WILLIAMS' DYNASTY:

    BRUNO FERNANDO

Bruno Fernando Costa (born June 16, 1997) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. Born in São Paulo, his career began when he signed a contract with the independent record label Deckdisc in early 2013. His debut album Private (2015) was critically acclaimed and its follow-up Bruno Fernando (2016) peaked in the top 10 on the US Billboard 200, was certified platinum by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and featured his first top 10 single "Heartbeat".Bruno Fernando

He rose to widespread prominence and became a household name with the release of his third studio album, Epiphany (2018) and its million-selling singles "Brazilian Blood" and "Prisoner". It would later produce two number one singles in the United States, "Island Girl" and "Party". The album sold more than two million copies in the United States and one million copies in Europe, receiving platinum certifications in both regions and many others.

In the 2020s, he started to develop a more mature image and assumed creative control over his fourth studio album Focus, which leaded to his first nomination to the Grammy Awards for the title-track's music video. His following studio albums, Gif (2024) and The Riddle (2026), were influenced by electronic dance music and were both critically and commercially successful, earning the singer eight Grammy Awards and four number one singles, "Wild Star" and "Diplomatic", from the former, and "Manslaughter" and "Life Awaits You", from the latter.

He released his seventh studio album, Headline in 2030, which yielded two number one hits, "Sleepy" and "Groove" and sold more than one million copies in Latin America alone. His following project was a two-part album called Vol. 1 (2033) and Vol. 2 (2034), consisting primarily on songs written by The Flamming Lips. He signed for a two years residency show at the Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas and performed one hundred concerts there from December 2035 to December 2037.

His tenth studio album, Signature, produced two number one singles, "James Dean" and "I.D.", which makes Fernando the artist with most number one singles in the United States (13).

    2014

In the following year, he started to work on his debut album and traveled to the United States to meet his friends and musicians Sky Ferreira, Diplo, Ariel Rechtshaid and Fernando Garibay. Together, they produced 13 demos, 8 of them becoming the album. Diplo was the executive producer of the project and produced four songs that made the final cut ("Break the Walls", "All On You", "Straight Out" and "Claws"), Rechtshaid produced two songs ("Lotta Love" and "Private Dance") and Garibay produced the ballad "Merboy" and the dance-pop song "Bottle Service". None of Ferreira's written songs made the final cut to the album. The recordings took place from January to April, 2014.

After the recording of the album was completed, Deckdisc sent Fernando on a concert tour in many clubs in Brazil, between June and September, 2014, where he performed six songs from his upcoming album and cover such as "Pretty Girls" (Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea), "Lean On" (Major Lazer & DJ Snake featuring MØ), "Worth It" (Fifth Harmony) and "L.A.LOVE (la la)" (Fergie).

During the rest of the year, Fernando and his team started to plan the release of the album, which was named Private. Fernando decided to release the Fernando Garibay-produced dance pop song, "Bottle Service", as his debut single.

      2015

The single was released in Latin America only on January 13, 2015, during the Summer there, which the label thought would help the song to become a hit. The music video for "Bottle Service" was filmed two days before the song's release and its theme was "beach party".

"Bottle Service" was critically acclaimed and debuted at number two in the Latin America's chart with 14,801 copies sold. Fernando performed the song live at Legendários and Agora é Tarde, popular TV shows in Brazil. The international release of the song was schedule to May, when the label would send the song for the pop radios, but it was avaiable on international iTunes on March 10. The music video gained international attention and gave Fernando his first fans outside of Brazil. After the official international single release on May 5, it entered the top 40 in Europe, debuting at #28, while breaking into the top 100 in Canada, United Kingdom, Oceania and Asia.

After the success of his lead single in the Latin America and his first entry on international charts, Fernando decided to release the second single from the album, "Break the Walls", written and produced by Diplo. The song was scheduled to be released on July 7. Bruno Fernando shared with his fans on his Facebook page the cover of his debut studio album, Private, and said that it would be released sometime in between August and November, 2015.

"Break the Walls" was well received by the critics ("a brilliant record") but its video was acclaimed and called "video of the decade". The theme was "new world". Commercially, the song was a failure in Latin America, failing to break into the top 100, something that shocked Bruno Fernando, due the success of the previous single. Internationally, it entered the top 40 of many regions, including Europe, United Kingdom, Oceania and Asia.

After the poor performance of "B
reak the Walls", the release of a third single was rushed. "Private Dance" was chose for the third single, the first produced by Rechtshaid and written by Bruno Fernando. The single release date was September 8. The album also received a release date, September 28, worldwide.

As "Bottle Service", "Private Dance" received critical acclaim, and was successf
ul in Latin America, debuting at #7 with 32,627 copies sold. It peaked inside the top 5 in Europe and Asia, his first single to do so. It also peaked at #20 in the United Kingdom and #21 in Oceania. Eventually it would become Bruno first song to sell 1 million copies worldwide.

The album was finally released and critics called it "record of the decade". It debuted atop of European and Latin charts (selling 149,436 and 37,730 copies, respectively) and peaked inside the top 10 in Asia. Worldwide, it sold 244,042 copies in its first week.

"Claws", a electro-pop ballad, was released as the fourth single in November, 30 worldwide and December, 1 in the United States. The song debuted at #2 in Latin America, with 57,779, the highest weekly single selling by the singer at the time. It also debuted at #2 in Europe and Asia, and #12 in the United Kingdom. Worldwide, it was the first single by Bruno Fernando to top the chart, with 313,637 copies.

      2016

In January, 2016, Bruno Fernando performed live for the first time in the American television. He performed "Claws" and "Private Dance" at The View, Conan and America's Got Talent. After the performances, both songs broke into the Billboard Hot 100 and "Claws" debuted at #26, while "Private Dance" debuted at #81, making them the first two entries of Bruno Fernando in the American chart. Later that month, he performed "Claws" at The X Factor USA. Eventually the song would peak at #12 and receive a platinum certification in the USA.

Private sold 1 million copies worldwide (661,224 copies in Europe and 180,033 in Latin America, alone). It received platinum certification in Latin America. In the United States, it sold 107,464 copies.

In February, 2016, Bruno Fernando returned to the studio to work on new music. He enlisted DJ Mustard, Mike Will Made It, Stargate, Pharrell Williams and Alex da Kid to work with him into his desired sound. He was influenced by R&B singers Tinashe and Rihanna, Nick Jonas and Prince Royce. He said on his Twitter profile that he considered his new ideas "experimental and more urban oriented". During the recording process, Fernando collaborated with A$AP Rocky, T.I., Tyga and Tove Lo.

Bruno Fernando completed the recordings in July. The lead single, "Run to You" was schedule to release on August, 8. The song was produced by Stargate and written by Mike Will Made It and it's described by Bruno as "an R&B song about two lovers". The music video was filmed at the end of July. The song received good reviews by the critics and was successful worldwide, peaking atop of the charts in Latin America and Asia, his first number one song in both regions. It also peaked inside the top 10 in Europe. In Oceania and the United Kingdom, it was a top 20 hit. The singer traveled to Europe, United Kingdom and Oceania to promote the single.

In September, Bruno Fernando confirmed that the album would be self-titled and would be released on November 29, 2016. The artwork was revealed at the beginning of October, alongside the tracklist. Bruno Fernando also performed "Run to You" in the American and Canadian TV and the song made its debut at #88 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Despite the marketing campaign, the interest in the song was weak so the label released the second single, "Get 2 Da Floor", featuring Tyga, on November 15. The song was produced by Mike Will Made It. The song received mixed reviews by the critics and debuted at number 2 in Latin America and inside the top 10 in Asia and Europe.

Upon its release, the album received mixed reviews. It charted poorly in Canada, Oceania and United Kingdom, while peaking inside the top 10 in Asia, Europe, United States and Latin America. It sold 98,644 copies in Europe, peaking at #5. In Latin America, 55,737 copies were sold in the first week and peaked at #2. In Asia, the album peaked at #8 with 19,337 copies. It was the first top 10 album by the singer in the USA, selling 248,213 copies and peaking at #8.

In December, Bruno Fernando went to Asia to promote "Get 2 Da Floor". After the release of the album, "Run to You" returned to the American charts and peaked at #30.

        2017

In January, Bruno Fernando performed "Run to You" and "Get 2 Da Floor" at World Music Awards. After the performance, "Get 2 Da Floor" peaked at #1 in Canada, broke into Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in the United States and entered many regions top 10 charts. The album also peaked inside the top 10 in Canada and Oceania, while peaking in #14 in the United Kingdom, regions where it had charted poorly in the previous year.

The third single was "Something to Say", produced by Stargate. The up-lifting song was released on February 27, 2017. The single as well received by the critics. The song was the third top 10 hit from the album in Europe and Asia and the second number one single by the singer in Latin America.

Deckdisc planned a concert tour in Latin America, Europe, Asia and United States to promote the album Bruno Fernando and increase the singer popularity in the regions. The tour was titled Bruno Fernando Live in Concert. Bruno Fernando created the setlist based on his biggest hits and personal favorites. The first gig was in Spain in February 10 and the last was in June 17, in Puerto Rico. The tour grossed $9 million in 49 concerts.

After the end of the tour, Bruno Fernando decided to release the fourth and last single from his sophomore album. The song chose by him was "Heartbeat", written by Tove Lo, and was released on June 13. It peaked inside the top 10 in Europe and Latin America, failing to archive success in others charts. During July, the singer performed in many American TV shows to promote the album, which leaded it to receive a platinum certification in the United States. The previous single, "Something to Say", also gained popularity and peaked at #38 in America.
Bruno Fernando was invited to perform for the first time in the MTV Music Video Awards. After the performance of "Heartbeat", the song broke into the top 10 of Oceania, United Kingdom, Canada and United States.

At the same time, he started writing songs for his next album because the record label wanted him to release new music as soon as possible to keep the popularity he was gaining. For the third album, Deckdisc enlisted A-list producers like Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Bloodshy & Avant and Billboard.

Bruno Fernando sold 1.8 million copies worldwide, received 2x platinum certification in Latin America, platinum in the United States and gold in Asia.

Bruno Fernando was nominated to the Grammy Awards for "Groove" and "Sleepy". The album Headline was also nominated. He released the single "Digression", featuring Mariah Carey, as a promotinal single for the last concerts on Europe in February. He also released "I Lost You", written by Ryan Tedder and produced by Justin Timberlake, as the official fourth single from the album internationally. Fernando announced concerts in Asia and Oceania, the last leg from the tour in March, April and May, concluding with 152 concerts.

"Digression" debuted at #6 in Europe, while "I Lost You" was the fourth number one from the album in Latin America. "Sweating Body" peaked at #5 in United States in April, then "I Lost You" was released as a radio-only single in America in the same month. Bruno cancelled four concerts from the tour in April (one in Pakistan, two in Israel and one in Australia) due exhaustion. The tour continued in April 20 in Australia and concluded in May 6 in New Zealand.
